Naomi Avsec

A discovery I found in liberty's over the weekend...Naomi Avsec. one word..ACE. She is a british textile designer who uses stitch and collage, bringing new dimensions and texture to embroidery. She pushes a concept of dreams and mythology within her work. Naomi is without fail a great innovator and has pushed boundaries of embroidery to anything I have ever seen before. She exhibited work in Tokyo at the Paul Smith Gallery...I will say no more. Take a look on her website...she is a real catch.

Je Vous en Prie

Je Vous En Prie is every inch as luxurious as it sounds. The collaboration of interior designer Jerome Barris and woven textile artist Fabienne Lecoque brings a strong base of colour, that is absolutely as rich as the company sounds, the French 'oh la la' is clearly visible and just delightful. Je vous en prie offers a range of bespoke designs for any client from gifts to chairs to fabrics. A true textile inspiration...Tres Bon. I think I adore the company name as much as I adore the fabrics.

Rachel Whiteread

Rachel Whiteread is a sculptor by trade and a creator of wonderful art. I have stumbled across her art work and gratefully so, incredibly inspiring for my current project. Her art shows a concept of space and structure, simplicity and geometric lines. A truly great artist..I have definitely added her to my exhibitions to visit list.

Sir Terence Conran

I am designing my home ware samples for the company Conran; designed of course by Sir Terence Conran. His design aesthetic is unpretentious and affordable luxury, there is a very fluent British Bauhaus feel to his work. Conran also has a range of home ware that is in marks and Spencer and John Lewis...If you have never looked at his interior work or at the conran shop then take a look NOW..you are in for a delightful treat.

Anthony Zinonos

I found Anthony Zinonos online while researching and he is one talented dude, I have really fallen for his work. His name says it all really doesn't it. I adore the bold colour against traditional picture combination, really different but it works, even the media he works on, sketch books & simple brown paper is really interesting. Take a look at his blog for updates of his work and exhibition.

structure and surface

Here are a few pieces of that I have been working on during my Easter half term. I am focusing on solid lines, blocks of colour and the feeling of solid structures and surfaces. I really like the art-deco feel that is coming through.

spring project - pattern and shape

Well contrary to the previous post my subject is no longer flowers..I have faced defeat and admit I can not draw flowers. I absolutely adore photographing flowers but I think they are one of those things you can either draw or not...and I cant. *boo hoo* So moving swiftly on, I have chose to look at buildings - there are a lot of hidden shapes and pattern in buildings that we don't always see. Here are the pictures I have taken that have kick started my new direction :
